Despite being such a big skincare junkie, I have a pretty basic routine. My husband may seem to insist otherwise, but I really do stick to the bare bones of a routine. One morning I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and stumbled upon the below ‘gram. I instantly wanted to join. I mean, how hard could it be? #10Products10Days? Easy peasy!
I know that so many of us have been focusing on simple routines, consistency, or are just trying to use up some products. In an effort to encourage people to be more consistent, I thought it would be fun to turn it into a challenge! Pick any 10 products from your stash and use only those products for 10 days. It can be any mix of products that you want. I will be doing the 10 days from July 1-10, but you can join at any time. Other than that, there are no rules. Use #10products10days so that everyone can see your routines! . . . . . . . . . . . #skincarechallenge #skincarecommunity #instaskincare #skincare #carolinehironsmademedoit #beautycommunity #skincarelover
My already minimal routines surely would get me through this. My AM routine typically consists of a cleanse or rinse, toner, a Vitamin C serum, a moisturizer (albeit oil or cream) and then SPF. My PM routine isn’t much different; a first cleanse to remove makeup, a second cleanse to remove leftovers, toner, a serum or form of Retinol and a night cream. I sometimes add things in for eye care, by my under eye area isn’t particularly dry, therefore it tends to get left out. With this in mind, let’s take a look at the ten products I chose, reasons for said products and thoughts on the whole experiment.
Botanic Farm Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet* | This is a really good first cleanse to remove makeup. I picked this because it reminds me of the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm and doesn’t irritate the eyes. It removes the most stubborn makeup I use, granted I do use waterproof makeup.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel* | Pretty decent cleansing gel for morning or second cleanse. I don’t see anything too special about this, but I do think its a cleansing gel that even those with dry skin can use. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated.
Nature Republic Argan 20 Essential Toner | This just happens to be the toner I’m currently using. I love misting toners to begin with and this one is a tried and true.
Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick* | Tried and true blemish killer. I put this on my list just in case something sneaky came out to play. I’ve emptied this many times over.
Lumene Arctic Berry Cocktail Brightening Vitamin C Hydra-Oil* | I’ve been on and off using this. I thought I’d give it another try. It actually takes the place of morning moisturizer as well as my Vitamin C serum. Even after trying this, this is still too much hydration for me, so I use just the tiniest amount. However, because of that, I feel I’m not getting the benefits of a typical Vitamin C serum.
Julep No Excuses Invisible Sunscreen Gel SPF 40* | Another product I’ve had for some time. The new Glossier SPF has been making its rounds on the Interwebs, and the talk of the consistency reminded me of this. I do like this sunscreen and it works well under makeup.
Strivectin Multi-Action Restorative Cream (PR)* | Just a typical night cream. I love StriVectin products and this one is pretty excellent. Even for those like me who aren’t into creams. It’s not too heavy, but does keep you hydrated.
Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil* | I had to include this. I love Luna to death. I know some people haven’t noticed any changes while using, but I do. Perhaps not the changes you’re expecting. My skin is in good condition for my age (35+), however my skin does get dull. I find that if I use this my skin perks right up. It’s bright and glowing and overall provides some needed youth.
e.l.f. Eye Refresh* | I wanted to add an AM and PM eye product, and since I’ve been sleeping poorly, I decided to add this. While I don’t think its anything special, it does feel great and actually helps wake me up.
Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masque Eye (PR)* | This eye cream is really rich, so it was rarely used. I like this, but I definitely recommend only for those with dry or mature eyes.
Overall I think the #10Products10Days Challenge was pretty fun. I did have to learn how properly dispense the right amount each time. I noticed some days I was way too hydrated and others I was a tad dry. However, towards the end of the challenge, my skin was smooth, supple and fresh. I will say, even though I used products I didn’t care for in the past, I didn’t have any bad reactions. I also didn’t really change my mind about said disappointing products. I still don’t think I’d repurchase them, but I will eventually use them up. But to be honest, I missed a good sheet mask through this whole ordeal. Next time I do this, I’m making sure I have ten of my favorite sheet mask! 😂
Have you tried any social media challenges lately? If so, leave a comment and let me know which one! I’d love to try more out, so I’ll be scrolling through my feed for some.
