I’m so picky when it comes to hair care. Growing up in a salon made it difficult to trust anything that’s sold in the drugstore. You can’t imaging how many times, from various stylists, about how there’s nothing of high quality in the drugstore. However, as time went on, and times got financially trying, I began to venture to the land of cheaper deals for hair care. In comes OGX. I’ve always been curious about the brand and had wanted to try their products, but I never knew where to start. I’ve been lucky enough to be sent some products, so today we’ll talk about a set I recently emptied. Let’s chat about the OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo & Conditioner.
So what is the OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water range? This range is coconut water based and is, “…an ultra-light splash of hydration infused with coconut water, electrolytes and coconut oil helps take your hair from parched to silky, shiny perfection.” So did this range provide that? I’ll go through the ingredients and then talk about my experience with the products.
Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Coco/Isostearamide, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Polyquaternium-10, PEG-150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance, Ext. Violet 2 (CI 60730)
This shampoo contains coconut water and coconut oil so it definitely holds true to the description. Additionally, the shampoo is SLS-free, which is helpful for those with dry hair. The oil in the product helps keeps the strands from drying out.
Moving on to the OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Conditioner,* below are the ingredients (as listed on CosDNA):
Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Glycol Distearate, Glycol Stearate, Ceteareth-20, Isopropyl Alcohol, DMDM Hydantoin, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance
Just like the shampoo, the product contains coconut water and oil. The conditioner does contain more acidic ingredients, which can be beneficial to the cuticle. In theory, this is turn can protect the hair from the harsh environment.
So what do I love about the OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo & Conditioner? Definitely the scent. It’s coconut-y and fruity and smells like summer. Also, I just love coconut scents in general. Hair care, body fragrance, home scents… I need all the coconut! I would say its the highlight of the product. But if you’ve noticed, the products do have added fragrance, so if you’re sensitive to scents on your scalp or skin, you may want to do a patch test.
But do the products provide lightweight hydration to the hair? Ehh, the shampoo didn’t dry my hair out, that’s for sure. However, I don’t feel the shampoo did anything extra. I will say I think the conditioner is the better product, but I think that could be my bias towards SLS-free shampoos. Don’t get me wrong, I get the benefits of SLS-free products, however, I tend to not wash my hair very often anyways. However, I always feel my hair doesn’t feel clean. But with that said, this did do an OK job on cleansing my scalp. Not the best, but decent.
So would I recommend this line? I think if you have dry hair this could be good for you. Not anything mind blowing, but good if you’re on a budget. If you’re going to purchase one of these, I would say go for the conditioner. The conditioner lives up to the claims and leaves your hair soft, bouncy and full of life. I think some of my better hair days were when I was using the conditioner.
